FastFurnace uses mixins for editing the functionality of Furnace and Blast Furnace. This improves their TPS (not melting speed!)
It caches and then checks the most recent recipe, similar to FastWorkbench. The vanilla furnace scans the furnace registry every tick. This may work fine in vanilla but can quickly become very large.
The changes are applicable to Furnaces, Blast Furnaces, and Smokers. Any mod utilizing AbstractFurnaceTileEntity will also receive the benefits of having this mod installed.
Here is a comparison of Vanilla and FastFurnace for those who enjoy numbers. The test consisted of 9 furnaces, each melting cobblestone for the duration. To avoid skewing any of the numbers, we keep it at a constant number. The test was performed in vanilla which has only 70 recipes for furnaces. Modpacks could have upwards to 700 recipes, which would increase the performance.
